Peninha Sanctuary - Route 1

I must mention here that I prefer to do this walk when the mountain is not covered in clouds, because we would have no stunning views otherwise!

This walk starts in Almoinhas Velhas, at the foot of the mountain.  Soon afterwards we encounter a VERY steep but short stretch, going uphill.  Because of this steep part here, a good fitness level is necessary.  Many plants, shrubs and dense vegetation, which covers part of this mountain, can be seen.

Once we get to the top of the mountain the view from the Sanctuary is absolutely spectacular.  Returning on the same track down with more great views of the open Atlantic.

Please bear in mind to wear proper walking shoes, also make sure you have enough water and sun protection!

I can really highly recommend doing this if you are visiting Cascais! It is a few hours very well spent getting to see the wonderful landscape around Cascais.

Rosemary took time to carefully selected a walk to match my request for a more challenging walk. I was not disappointed, we walked up the steep and very pretty route to Peninha. ( there is also a less steep rout offered too). Rosemary has a deep knowledge of the area and pointed out lots of interesting spots on the way. We had amazing views of the area as we walked and once we reached Peninha.

I highly enjoyed our walk together, Rosemary is wonderful company as well as being an expert guide to this special landscape.
